SENATOR Matthew Canavan has thanked the people of Queensland for re-electing him to the senate for another six years.
“It’s an incredible honour to serve Queensland in Australia’s senate, and to be elected a third time is an absolutely enormous honour,” Senator Canavan said.
“Thank you to the people of Queensland for putting your trust in me to represent your interests down in Canberra.
“I want to thank my wonderful family, staff, and all the LNP volunteers for their commitment during a tough fought election campaign, especially those that braved the rain during the prepoll weeks and on polling day.”
Senator Canavan said that he would continue to stand up for the people of Queensland, especially those that work the farming and mining industries.
“Myself and the LNP team in Central Queensland have been consistent in our support of workers in the mining industry, and we will make sure that their voices are heard in Canberra.
“It means a lot that not only did I get re-elected but the people of Capricornia, Flynn, and Dawson trusted the LNP team to continue the good work that we have done for the region.
“This includes the work that Michelle Landry and Ken O’Dowd did to get the funding to build the Rookwood Weir against a reluctant state Labor government.
“Our job now going into opposition will be to ensure that we hold Labor to account, and ensure they don’t pull money already committed to Central Queensland out of the budget.
“This includes the funding for Urannah Dam, near Collinsville, funding for the $400 million Beef Corridors throughout the Central Queensland Councils, and smaller projects like the $2.5 million to the Boyne Tannum Football Club, and $8 million to the Fitzroy Community Hospice.
“But most importantly, we’ll be standing up and fighting to ensure that we keep jobs and opportunity in Central Queensland.”
